Air China Pregnancy, Infant and Child Travel Policy

Air China is the flag carrier and one of the major airlines of the People’s Republic of China. Air China is based in the Beijing Capital International Airport. Here’s a summary of Air China’s pregnancy, infant and children travel policies.

Expectant Mothers Flying with Air China

Women who are under 32 weeks pregnant can travel as a regular passenger unless they are advised by a doctor not to travel. Women who are over 32 weeks and under 35 weeks pregnant, require a medical certificate that is issued within 7 days prior to departure.

Air China does not allow women on flights in the following circumstances:

  • Over 35 weeks pregnant
  • Within 4 weeks of delivery
  • Less than 7 days after delivery

Infants (under 2 years old) Flying with Air China

      • Infants are not required to have their own seat as these children may sit on an adult’s lap.
      • Only one lap child is allowed per adult(over 18 years old and a guardian of the child).
      • If one adult is traveling with more than one infant under 2 years of age, a seat will have to be purchased for the second infant.
      • A seat can be purchased for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device.
      • You must obtain approval from Air China to travel with an infant. The infant should be over 14 days old and if premature, over 90 days old.
      • Infants up to 2 years old (24 months) is usually charged 10% of an adult fare plus taxes if it will be sitting on an adult’s lap.
      • A ticket will have to be purchased for any flight on which the infant will be over 2 years old.

Baggage Allowance for Infants

      • Free baggage allowance for all infants flying on Air China: 22 lb/10 kg
      • An additional folding baby carriage or cradle may be checked. Provided that the cabin space permits, such folding baby carriage or cradle may be taken into the cabin with the approval of Chief Attendant.

Children (2 to 12 years old) Flying with Air China

      • Children between the ages of 2-12 years old can travel using the Children Fare which is regulated by the carrier.

Special Services for Families Flying with Air China

Cradles

      • Most flights on Air China provide cradles for babies. This can be done through the local business department of Air China.
      • You may apply for infant cradle service on the São Paulo route at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled departure of your flight.
      • On all other routes, you may apply for cradle service at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure of your flight. This can be done through the local business department of Air China.

Child and Baby Meals

      • Please request these special meals during your ticket reservation.
        • Child Meal (CHML) – This meal is prepared for child passengers. No salty or sweet foods are used.
        • Baby Meal (BBML) – This meal is prepared for infants. Two types of baby food are served, such as meat, vegetables or fruit.
