How to Celebrate Your Birthday at Walt Disney World - Tips for Parents Planning a Birthday WDW Vacation

Let Them Know You’re Celebrating

First, you need to let Walt Disney World know you are celebrating. To do this, you want to do one of two things. Your first option is to let your travel agent know that you are celebrating. When you do this, he or she will call Disney on your behalf and let them know.

Another option, if you book your trip without an agent, is to call Walt Disney World and tell them. When you arrive at your resort, be sure to remind the person at the front desk who is checking you in. Also, you can tell the CastMember at the check in podium for your meal that you have a birthday to celebrate. Magic will arrive at your table.

Get Your Free Birthday Button

One of the best ways to celebrate is to make sure you are wearing your Birthday Button. This button is given to you at the resort when you arrive, so be sure to remind the Cast Member that you need a birthday button.

Wear this to all the parks, your meals, etc, and so many fun things can happen!

Surprises at Disney Parks & Resorts

Sometimes, your child may get a Mickey sticker. Other times, perhaps a fun treat at a dining location. An example of this is when we were celebrating my daughter’s birthday last summer. When we arrived at Cosmic Ray’s to pick up our food, the CastMember behind the counter saw it was her birthday. She offered her a cake push pop. So sweet!

You may get a simple “Happy Birthday, Princess” as you are walking through the parks. Regardless, it is the thought that counts, and your magic may vary. Should you lose your button, you can visit the desk at your resort, or almost any gift shop in the parks, and they can give you a new one.

Celebrating at a Restaurant

Another great way to celebrate your birthday is to note it on a dining reservation – or, in our case, ALL your dining reservations! Each dining location handles birthdays differently.

My personal favorite is Cinderella’s Royal Table. Here, they bring the birthday child a princess place mat, and the princesses can autograph it when they visit the table. This, along with a cute cupcake, makes it so special.

Other locations will bring a cupcake and often a birthday card signed by the characters at that dining location. You can also celebrate at a table service meal with a specialty cake from a Walt Disney World pastry chef. There are a lot of great options out there.

Special Birthday Experiences for Families and Kids

Booking a special experience to celebrate a birthday is a great way to add some magic. Perhaps a visit to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is in order. You even get a special Birthday Princess sash. Or, a pirate makeover is a great way to celebrate as well.

To get the whole family involved, you could book a dessert party at any of the Disney parks to celebrate in a very special way.

Another great option is to book an experience like a fireworks cruise or a private tour. Some tours are rather inexpensive, but still a fun experience! Or, you could go all out and book a Private VIP tour.

Disney Themed Birthday Gifts

Celebrating a birthday at Walt Disney World can also come in the form of merchandise. Walt Disney World sells cute Minnie Ears with a birthday cupcake. Or, pick out a Mouse Ears hat and have it embroidered with your name and birthday. There are several shops on property that will do so. Mouse Gears at EPCOT and Le Chapeaux at Magic Kingdom both have embroidery options.

Or, perhaps you have a creative person in your family. He or she could create matching birthday shirts for your party to wear in the parks!

Along the lines of merchandise, you can have a special delivery from Disney Floral and Gifts, or a personal shopper, delivered to you at the resort. Disney Floral and Gifts will set up some celebration packages in your resort room. What a fun thing to return to after a day in the parks!

There are a TON of ways to celebrate your birthday at Walt Disney World. Celebrations are, after all, their specialty!
