Expectant Mothers

Hawaiian Airlines will not transport a passenger expecting delivery within 7 days.

Exception to travel within 7 days of delivery:

With Doctors certificate provided dated within 72 hours of departure stating passenger has been  examined and found to be physically fit for transportation and will not require any extraordinary medical attention during the flight. If, however, on the day of departure, Hawaiian Airlines feels that the passenger does not seem fit to fly, the decision to accept the passenger will be made only after medical personnel are contacted, the passenger is examined and cleared to take the flight.

Infant (under 2 years old)

Infants are not required to have their own seat however you must inform Hawaiian Airlines that you will be traveling with an infant on you lap. Lap children can only be held by passengers who are at least 18 years of age on domestic flights and 16 years of age on international flights.

Only one lap child is allowed per adult. If one adult is traveling with more than one infant under 2 years of age, a seat will have to be purchased for each additional infant.

You can also choose to purchase a seat for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device.

For infants departing under 2 years of age and returning as a 2 year old, the applicable adult fare will be charged for the return flight.

On Hawaiian Airlines’ domestic routes (excluding Sydney, Australia; Papeete, Tahiti; Pago Pago, America Samoa; Manila, Philippines; (Seoul)Incheon and Pusan, Korea Republic) infants under the age of 2 years travel free of charge when traveling with an adult (15 years or older). The infant is not assigned a seat and is held on the adult’s lap for the duration of the flight. If the infant requires a seat, please book the infant as a regular passenger. Maximum is 1 infant per adult.

For international travel to and from Pago Pago American Samoa; Papeete Tahiti; Sydney, Australia; Manila, Philippines and (Seoul) Incheon and Pusan, Korea Republic), infants under the age of 2, who do not occupy a separate seat are charged a roundtrip fare or one way fare plus all applicable taxes/fees for all booking classes. Infants must be accompanied by a passenger at least 18 years of age (16 years of age for travel between Hawaii and Pago Pago, American Samoa). A separate ticket will be issued upon payment at time of check-in. Infants occupying a seat on international flights above will be charged 75% of the adult published fare plus applicable taxes/fees and must be accompanied in the same compartment by a passenger at least 18 years of age. Maximum is 1 infant per adult.

Baggage Allowance for Infants

The following items are all accepted as check-in baggage and exempt from baggage fees when traveling with a child. These items may be carried on the aircraft as part of their carry-on baggage allowance provided the item can properly fit in the overhead compartment or stowed beneath the seat in front.

  • Car Seats
  • Infant Carrying Seats
  • Strollers

Note: Collapsible / portable cribs are not part of the carry-on baggage allowance, and must be checked in.

There is no separate baggage allowance for infants held in a passenger’s lap.

Carry-On Baggage Allowance:

Car seats may be carried on the aircraft as part of their carry-on baggage allowance provided the item can properly fit in the overhead compartment or stowed beneath the seat in front, and if in compliance with size/weight restrictions for carry-on baggage. If the car seat is used in-flight on a purchased seat, it is not considered as a carry-on.

Child (2 to 11 years old)

Children aged 2 to 11 years pay 75 per cent of the adult fare. On domestic fares between the islands of Hawaii, and between Honolulu and the US mainland, children pay the same fare as an adult.

Children 2 to 11 years old have the same baggage allowance as adults. On international flights and international / domestic through tickets (a Hawaiian domestic flight connecting with an onward Hawaiian international flight), the allowance is 32 kgs and two pieces of luggage each. On US domestic flights the limit is 23 kgs and two pieces of luggage each.

Strollers, Bassinets and Child Restraint Devices

Strollers:

You may check in your standard collapsible stroller at the gate or at the check-in counter free of charge when accompanied by a ticketed adult passenger and being used by a traveling child. If you have a large stroller we recommend that you check it at the ticket counter. Strollers over 50lbs and non-collapsible strollers must be checked at the ticket counter and will be returned to you at baggage claim.

Bassinets:

Bassinet requests are a request only and not guaranteed. Due to aircraft configuration, not all aircrafts are able to accommodate the bassinet.

Bassinet requests must be made at least 24 hours prior to departure by calling Reservations.

Bassinets are be available for request on flights to/from the following cities:

  • Haneda, Japan
  • Osaka, Japan
  • Incheon, Korea
  • Sydney, Australia

If, on the day of departure there are unused bassinets, passengers may request them and are given on a first come, first serve basis. Please inquire at the ticket counter upon check-in if we will be able to accommodate the bassinet request.

These bassinets will only be used in-flight and will be installed by flight attendants.

Child Restraint Devices:

Note: Backless booster type seats, safety belts, belly belts, harness type and vest type devices are not allowed during taxi, takeoff, and landing. Except: CARES Harness. Cares is designed specifically for aviation use for children ages 1 and older, who weigh between 22-44 pounds. Cares is approved by the FAA as an alternative to a car seat for aircraft transportation and may be used during all phases of flight. Flight attendants must check to see the FAA certification label is sewn inside the red CARE loop.

All safety seats brought on board a Hawaiian Airlines flight must meet one of the standards described below.

  1. Seats manufactured between January 01, 1981 and February 26, 1985 must have the following label to be considered acceptable for use…

“This child restraint system conforms to all Federal motor vehicle safety standards”

  2. Seats manufactured after February 26, 1985 must have additional labeling printed in Red to be acceptable for use. The label reads…

“This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft”

  3. Some safety seats are manufactured outside the U.S. and do not have the labels described above. These restraint systems must be manufactured with standards approved by the U.N. The labels are marked with a circle surrounding the letter “E” followed by the distinguishing number of the country that has given approval and a category and mass number of the seat. These numbers are similar to serial or model numbers found on seats manufactured in the U.S.

Safety seats that do not have a label stating certification for use in aircraft, or seats manufactured before Jan 1, 1981, are not acceptable for use in-flight.

Special Services

Bassinet facilities for infants must be booked prior to travel. No special meal is offered, but you can request milk and juices on board.
