Renting a Car at Disney World

Post last updated May 29, 2013

My husband and I spend weeks debating about whether we need a rental car when we plan a trip to Walt Disney World.

There are hundreds of affordable car rental companies like Alamo Orlando that have several car pick up locations including the airport so it’s never a question of vehicle availability.

3 Reasons Why You Should Rent a Car

1. You Want Flexibility

Many hotels in Orlando offer complimentary shuttles to the parks only – Disney World, SeaWorld, UniversalĀ are theĀ most popular routes.

If you want to explore more of Florida – beaches, museums, restaurants, or malls – you will have to find another way to get there.

You are also stuck to whatever schedule they have. Unfortunately that could be really stressful with exhausted and cranky kids. We’ve been there, done that!

2. It’s Cheaper Than an Airport Transfer Service

Only a handful of hotels provide airport transfers and a rental car usually costs a lot less than a transfer service. Some rentals start at $35/day!

3. You Want to Be Comfortable

Relying on free transportation means taking a chance on getting a seat on a bus, boat or monorail.

Wait times during our stay at Pop Century Resort ranged anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes and there were times when we had to hold our kids in our arms. Not fun when they’re 30 pounds!

Renting a car means no waiting in line and a seat for everyone. And most importantly, air conditioning!

We always rent a car when we go to Orlando. I watch the competitors sites and get a great deal. There’s so much to see there other than the parks so we have always found it great to have our own transportation.

I always like renting a car when I am in a place for a long period of time, unless I’m spending my time in a large urban city. The time it saves makes it worth it!

Thanks for the info – I’ve yet to take my family to DisneyWorld – hopefully they have rentals available for large families – 4 kids!
