Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood, Ontario is a popular destination among skiers and snowboarders and is the largest mountain resort in the province.
I am not the biggest fan of winter or winter sports (I’m not very coordinated on skis!) so my visits to ski resorts including this one when the temperatures drop have been minimal. I think I’ve only visited once in the winter.
However, Blue Mountain is one of my favourite places to go for a short getaway in the summer because of the number of activities available to resort visitors and guests.
It’s an ideal time for families with children who haven’t been introduced to winter sports or who don’t particularly like them to visit. A summer visit is also a way to enjoy the amenities of a luxurious ski resort at off-peak prices.
From catch and release fishing, a putting course, an open air gondola ride, to mountaintop segway tours and wood and ropes obstacle courses, there is something for every member of the family at this resort.
Part of our family’s “staycation” plan this summer is a road trip out to the Collingwood area and Blue Mountain Resort.
It’s fairly close to home (about 1.5 to 2 hours driving from Toronto) and there are so many “new to us” activities and attractions my husband and I would like to see and do with our kids.
Here’s our Summer at Blue Mountain To Do List:
1. The Wind Rider Triple Zips
The Wind Rider Triple Zips is the newest attraction at Blue Mountain Resort and features 3 parallel 400 foot zip lines which will allow riders to experience speeds of up to 50 km/h.
I have a fear of heights so the testing of this attraction will be left up to my husband. He is an adrenaline junkie and didn’t even pause to think when I asked “Do you want to go ziplining?”.
2. Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster
Despite my fear of heights, the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster is something that is on my to do list.
Being able to control the speed of the coaster makes me less nervous and from what I’ve seen online, it looks relatively tame. Fingers crossed. I’ll let you know how it goes later!
3. Plunge! Aquatic Centre
Located in Blue Mountain Village, Plunge! Aquatic Centre is perfect for water loving families.
There are several pools (indoors and outdoors), water slides and an indoor water playground. I imagine once we get inside it will be a struggle to convince our kids to leave. We are planning to spend at least one afternoon here.
4. Visit the Village
The Village is the activity hub of the resort. Restaurants, stores and a children’s playground area are all located here. We will definitely be spending a lot of time in the Village. We do have to eat, afterall!
5. Beach Day
We are a family of beach bums and rarely turn down the opportunity for some time in the sand and sun.
Blue Mountain has a private beach for resort guests just a short 10 minute drive away. We are hoping the weather co-operates and we’ll be able to squeeze in a beach day during our short summer getaway.
It looks like we may have some very busy days ahead of us in Collingwood!
With so many activities and attractions, Blue Mountain Resort is a place families can enjoy 365 days of the year.
Have you ever considered visiting a ski resort in summer?
I grew up in Collingwood, it is a great place to visit!
I’m going to Blue Mountain in a few weeks for the first time and I am SO excited! Love visiting ski resorts in the summertime – the natural beauty combined with a chance to enjoy the area without a snowsuit!
I’ve never been to a ski resort in winter but this has got me excited. There wasn’t one thing on that list that my kids (see how I always say kids when I mean me) wouldn’t absolutely love to do. It is so close to us. I’m going to look into a trip for my family!
