A few months ago I took my very first kid free holiday and toured Seattle Washington with my siblings for 4 days. We called The Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle our home away from home and were sad when our all girls getaway ended.
The Fairmont Olympic is one of those hotels you can’t help but fall in love with. Like other Fairmont properties, the lobby is gorgeous with its sweeping staircase, large floral arrangements and old world charm (crown molding, floral fabrics and wallpaper). This hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
As a Fairmont President’s Club member (it’s free to join by the way) we were already checked in the moment we arrived. The front desk handed us our keys and let us know our room was ready. And we got complimentary internet access. Yahoo! Because when you’re away from your kids for the first time all you want to do is get in touch with them. I was emailing and Skyping with them every day.
Centrally Located and Spacious Rooms
The Fairmont is located in the heart of Downtown Seattle, near the main financial and retail districts. The hotel is within walking distance (although very hilly so be prepared to work those leg muscles) to many tourist attractions, shopping and entertainment including Pike Place Market, Seattle’s waterfront, Westlake Center (shopping), the Library, the Seattle Art Museum, Benaroya Hall (where the Seattle Symphony plays), and Pacific Place.
It is only 3 blocks to major department stores – Nordstrom, Macy’s and Barney’s New York and a couple of blocks away from the light rail. My sisters convinced me walking was the way to go for our trip so we did not take advantage of this. At least I can thank them for my weight loss – although very slight.
We were put on the 4th floor in a spacious room. Although the furnishings were a bit outdated for my tastes, the room was huge! 2 double beds, a large dressing area (not sure what all that space was for as there was no furniture there besides the mini fridge and vanity) and a simple bathroom.
Overall Impressions
Our stay was excellent – staff was friendly and quick to offer answers to any of our questions, beds were comfortable and it was quiet at night! It was probably the best sleep I had all year. Although being kid free might have added to that too.
With only a few days in Seattle, I wish we had experienced more of what The Fairmont Olympic had to offer. We spent most of our time eating around town and not at the restaurants in the hotel. We were so full we didn’t have time to try out their award winning restaurant – The Georgian and Shuckers although we had planned to! You can also order items from either of the restaurants to be delivered to your room if you prefer eating in your PJs.
With 24 hour in room dining, twice daily housekeeping service, complimentary health club, evening turn down service and complimentary high speed internet access, The Fairmont Olympic is an impressive property and definitely offers a lot of value for the money.
Hopefully on my next trip to Seattle I’ll be able to eat at the restaurants and maybe indulge in Afternoon Tea – traditional afternoon tea with sandwiches, savories and scones in The Georgian Restaurant.
It is definitely a place I would love to visit with my children and husband one day. And for those who are visiting Seattle with pets, you’ll be glad to know that The Fairmont Olympic Hotel Seattle is Fido Friendly!

Hello! I just wanted to write to say thanks for this review. I recently returned from a week stay at the Fairmont in Seattle with my husband and enjoyed it. The location was superb as mentioned in your post.
So glad to hear you liked the hotel Rose. It is indeed a great location and in the middle of everything.
