Sticky Lips BBQ in Rochester, NY

Post last updated January 26, 2016

BBQ in Rochester? Not exactly the first thing that came to my mind when planning our weekend road trip but definitely something that should be on your “to do” list if you’re visiting.

Sticky Lips BBQ

Having never been a big fan of BBQ before (although we do go to Ribfest at home every Summer – more for the atmosphere than the food), our family was wowed by Sticky Lips BBQ.

There are two locations in Rochester and we chose the one closest to the Museum of Play.

Sticky Lips BBQ Review

Quiet Restaurant, Big Personality

We arrived around 11:30am and it wasn’t too crowded. It was quiet which our daughter liked (she is sensitive to noise and any restaurant with loud music is a no no for her) and spacious enough that we were able to leave our son napping in his stroller beside our table without blocking the aisle.

Old signs, vintage photographs, and local memorabilia adorn the walls and makes for a very casual and fun restaurant to have a meal with little ones.

The menu is extensive with tons of options for meat lovers AND vegetarians!

We went with traditional BBQ fare.

Sticky Lips BBQ Main Dishes

Deep fried pickles to start (amazing and loved by everyone) and 4 main entrees for 4 adults and 2 kids.

Pulled Pork Pittsburgh Sandwich with mac n cheese and tomato cucumber salad.

Original Pulled Pork Sandwich with mac n cheese and chili.

Ribs with a piece of cornbread on the side. The ribs were tender and were moist enough that they didn’t need any other sauce on it.

Texas Beef Brisket Pittsburgh Sandwich with collard greens and beans. Greens were a little too sour for our tastes.

The sides were our kids’ favourites and the Pittsburgh Sandwiches were a big hit with the adults.

Meat, seasoned fries and mustard based coleslaw and a tomato slice all piled in between two pieces of buttered jalapeno cornbread. YUM!

Sticky Lips BBQ Review

While everything had tons of flavour, we couldn’t resist trying some of Sticky Lips house-made sauces.

We tried 4 out of the 7 – All American BBQ (the most popular sauce at Sticky Lips according to our waitress), Cherry Bomb (sweet and spicy), Betty’s Burning Lips (I was too chicken to try this but my husband said it was great) and Carolina Clipper Mustard (tangy mustard with a slightly sweet aftertaste) – my favourite of the bunch.

Sauces are available for sale and I’m kicking myself now for not buying a bottle!

Go there. Pronto.

Starving? Head on over. The portions are huge and offer great value for your money. 4 adults and 2 kids could barely finish 4 mains and 1 starter. Only the plate with the ribs were finished.

Fan of BBQ? Sticky Lips BBQ won’t disappoint.

Not a big BBQ fan? Go there. You’ll become a believer!

Up for a challenge? Try the Atomic Bomb. A pound each of hamburger, pulled pork and fries, bacon, meat sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion and lettuce piled on a giant bun. Finish in 30 minutes, win a t shirt and see your name in lights!

I love exploring new places through food. One of my absolute favorite things to do. And BBQ…let’s just say we know each other really well. So if I am ever in Rochester, you bet I will be checking these places out. Yum. Yum.

That food looks delicious although I am not much of a BBQ fan either (save for attending Ribfests which, like you, is more for the outing).

Those were my thoughts too when we first got there. We were really surprised though how much the kids loved it! I still think about the sandwich 🙂

It was a fun place to visit. I wish we could do more weekend road trips but it is difficult with young kids so hopefully when they get older we can plan more.

Hello, KoaP. I love BBQ. The photos sure made my mouth water. My favorite BBQ is ribs. They sound perfect from your description. This sounds like my kind of place large aisles, quiet, huge portions of food and vintage signs for decor.
