Walt Disney World Resort Hotels for Large Families (5 to 12 People)

Post last updated May 25, 2021

If you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World and want to take advantage of the benefits of staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel, you probably know that the list of accommodations to choose from is extensive.

However, if you have a large family or travel group (5+ people), trying to decide the best option for your home away from home is challenging as most resort rooms have room for up to 4 people plus a child in a crib.

Not sure which Disney resort works best for your family or group? Here’s a breakdown of all of the Disney World resort options along with some planning tips.

Contents

  • Requesting Connecting or Adjoining Rooms
  • Children in Cribs
  • Disney Value Resorts for Large Groups & Families
  • Disney Moderate Resorts for Large Groups & Families
  • Disney Deluxe Resorts for Large Groups & Families
  • Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts for Large Groups & Families

Walt Disney World Resorts for Large Families and Groups - 5 to 12 Guests and All Budgets

Requesting Connecting or Adjoining Rooms

Large families or travel groups can request connecting or adjoining rooms however Disney will not guarantee these requests.

We’ve traveled with extended family in previous years and were lucky enough to get connecting standard rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. You can read our full Pop Century review here.

This was probably because we traveled during low season and the hotel was not at full capacity. Had we absolutely required connecting rooms (this wasn’t imperative and we were OK with the idea of being separated) we would not have taken the chance and booked a room at a resort that could accommodate us all.

Children in Cribs

All Walt Disney World Resort hotel rooms have space for a crib for children under the age of 3. This additional guest to the room is not included in the maximum guest capacity.

For example, the standard Value Resort room that has a maximum guest capacity of 4 people actually has room for 5 guests if the 5th guest is a child in a crib.

Play Yards (Pack ‘N Play cribs) are available on a first come first serve basis at all resorts. Alternatively, you can rent them from baby equipment rental companies in the Orlando area.

Below is a list of Disney World Resorts for Large Families (5+ People). Maximum capacity does not include children in cribs as stated above.

Disney Value Resorts for Large Groups & Families

Disney’s Value Resorts are the most budget friendly and no-frills options for guests wanting to stay on Disney property. Read more about the pros and cons of staying on at a Value Resort.

Here are two resorts in the Value category that can accommodate more than 4 guests:

Disney’s All Star Music Family Suites – Up to 6 people

  • Master Bedroom: Queen Bed
  • Family Room: 1 Full Size Pullout sofa, Convertible Twin ottoman and Convertible Twin Chair
  • Kitchenette: Microwave, small fridge, coffee maker
  • 2 Separate Bathrooms

Disney’s Art of Animation Family Suites – Up to 6 People

  • Master Bedroom: Queen Bed
  • Family Room: 1 Full Size Pullout Sofa, 1 “Inovabed” – a dining table that converts to a double bed
  • Kitchenette: Microwave, small fridge, coffee maker
  • 2 Separate Bathrooms

Family suites at these two value resorts are more expensive than booking two standard value rooms and requesting connecting/adjoining rooms however you are guaranteed to be together in one room.

Disney Moderate Resorts for Large Groups & Families

Disney’s Moderate Resorts are the mid-tier option for guests interested in staying on Disney property. They have a few more amenities than Value Resorts and you can read more about the benefits of staying at a Moderate Resort here.

Disney’s Coronado Springs Suites – Up to 6 People

Suites have 4 to 6 person occupancy depending on the type of suite reserved

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside – Up to 5 People

  • Rooms in the Alligator Bayou section of the resort can accommodate up to 5 people
  • 2 Queen Beds, 1 Pull Down Twin Bed (not meant for teens or adults)
  • Read our review of the Royal Guest Rooms here

Port Orleans Riverside

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – Up to 6 People

  • 1 Full Bed, Bunk Bed in the Bedroom
  • 1 Double Murphy Bed in the Living Room
  • Fully Equipped Kitchen
  • Outdoor Patio with Grill
  • 1 Bathroom

If you don’t mind giving up some resort amenities (like being close to complimentary Disney transportation or the food court) and are looking for extra space and privacy, the cabins might be an ideal option for your family.

Disney Deluxe Resorts for Large Groups & Families

Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts are the crème de la crème when it comes to Disney resorts. They have rooms that can accommodate small and large families as well as some added amenities that Value and Moderate resorts do not have. As such, there are many options for larger families in this hotel/resort category. Check out what you can expect when staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Up to 8 People

  • Deluxe rooms can accommodate 5 people plus a child in a crib

Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts for Large Groups & Families

If you require even more room, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts are worth taking a look at.

The only drawback though to booking a villa is that they are very pricey as the rooms that can accommodate 5 or more guests come with fully equipped kitchens, separate bedrooms, multiple bathrooms and sometimes laundry rooms.

Villas are attached to Deluxe resorts so guests staying in a villa can take advantage of the amenities at those resorts.

These villas are part of the Disney Vacation Club properties (time share) and some rooms may be difficult to book without ample notice since owners have priority. Guests can either rent from vacation club owners or book directly through Disney. Special offers are released to the public from time to time which might make it a bit more budget friendly.

Below are the room configurations at Deluxe Villa Resorts that have space for 5 or more people.

Animal Kindgom Villas (Jambo House) / Animal Kingdom Villas (Kidani Village) – Up to 12 People

  • 1 Bedroom Villas can accommodate 5 people plus a child in a crib
  • 2 Bedroom Villas can accommodate 9 people plus a child in a crib

We are going to Disney World next week!! Along with our 4 kids. It’s true, you can’t just stay at any ol’ hotel with that many kids in tow.

It was less for us to have a suite at animation than adjoining rooms anywhere! But it was January and slow time. Can’t wait to go back again with all 5 of us

This is all really, really helpful! I’ve always stayed in the monorail properties, but I should scale back a bit and try something a little less pricey!

I loved your post.. most families now have at least 3 kids and we are one of them, finding a room for 5 people is always a hassle, we most often end up getting two rooms or sneaking one person in.. I hate that.> So glad that Disney is changing this and thinking of us FAMILIES … loved finding out all the different options they have..
